Merkle proof (eth_getProof)

Last updated:

The RPC method

eth_getProof: Takes an address, a list of storage keys and a block, and returns the account fields with accountProof and a storageProof for each key, as defined by EIP-1186. eth_getProof reference →

Applies to: EVM chains

In more detail

EIP-1186 defines eth_getProof, which returns the account's balance, codeHash, nonce and storageHash together with accountProof and storageProof. Combined with a stateRoot from a trusted block header, it allows offline verification of any account or storage value. Proofs for old blocks need historical state.
